Kerstin Brätsch

Brätsch uses oil paint and a variety of other materials to explore the nature of painting in a digital age. Many of her works resemble geodes or marbled surfaces. She says that


Marble stones store time and history in a unique way, their material shaped by seemingly unknowable natural forces that create the aesthetic character of the material and its beauty.


She uses stucco marmo a process originating in the 17th century where plaster, pigment, and glue are used to imitate marble and other stones. She has recently started incorporating stones into her work, adding mosaics. The mosaics create an extra layer of texture amongst all of the smoother marbling
